Salt Shaker: Nuclear Storage

The Scoop: Gov. Jon Huntsman is going to jump in the ring with Utah's two U.S. senators and with an elbow firmly planted in the chin of each Washington bureaucrat remind them that Utahn's don't want nuclear waste anywhere in the West. Huntsman knows Mormon-boy Minority Leader Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, has his back. Or, at least that's what he told the press at the monthly governor's news conference on Thursday.

The Slant: The Deseret Morning News praised the idea saying, "Anything state or federal leaders can do to stave off placing a nuclear waste dump on the Skull Valley Goshute reservation in Tooele County is a wise move in our book." And that's the kind of revolutionary opinion one has come to expect from the Deseret News. Children and puppies good. Nuclear waste bad. Keep it simple and black and white so the readers aren't confused.

The Rant: There isn't one this week.

The Span: In reality there is little Reid can do to stop the plan if the administration supports it. Hell, if Hatch and Bennett don't care why should Bush. It's their backyard, or about 1,500 miles from Crawford, Texas.

Waking--Three Years Later--In The Tomb

It's been three years since the Bush Administration levied huge tax cuts believing blue-sky forcasts that predicted a heavy tax surplus. Then came the drought and the forecasters were outed as idiots and/or administration lapdogs. It took three years to get a confession for the mistake.
"It turns out that we were all wrong," said Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve.

On Easter Weekend I Quote Satan: Larry Flynt

I'm not a Larry Flynt fan, but I think he is a smart person. Smart people often make smart comments. This is one:
"Majority rule only works if you're also considering individual rights. Because you can't have five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for dinner."
If you need a source you can Google it and find it everywhere.

Malawi Boogeyman

Malawi’s president, Mr. Scaredy-Pants Bingu wa Mutharika evacuated his 300-bedroom mansion because the place is a popular night spot for the spirits “from the pits of hell.” Journalists who revealed the president’s childish delusions were arrested and charged with reporting news “likely to cause fear and alarm in the community.” Hmmm…There’s something about countries like Malawi that scares me. In this case, it’s the boogeyman who used to live in the presidential palace.

Concrete Problems in Utah County

Utah County's problems are deep. Everyone knows that. But they don't even have the technology to track a 911 cell phone call. This is technology even Tooele county has. But I guess this is what happens when all the tax money in the county goes to support roads and attract pyramid-scheming companies to roost within your boundaries rather than building meaningful infrastrutures like 911 tracking software. Who needs anything but concrete anyway? deseretnews.com | 911 call triggers confusion
